How the 22ct gold price is set each day
The world price
Gold trades in US dollars per troy ounce in London, New York and Asia, round the clock on weekdays. That is the figure behind the Live column.
Into rupees, plus duty
Indian bullion dealers convert it at the day's dollar rate and add import duty and their premium. That is the price of 24K (999) gold in India.
IBJA's benchmark
Twice each trading day, around 12 pm and 5 pm IST, IBJA publishes its 999 rate from its members' quotes. The 22ct (916) rate is that figure times 0.916; 18K is times 0.75.
Your jeweller's rate
Shops quote their counter rate from IBJA's and add 3% GST. On jewellery, each shop also adds its own making charge.
When is the gold market closed?
IBJA publishes no rate on Saturdays, Sundays or the days the commodity exchange is shut. Today: open.

Is 22ct the same as 22 carat, 22K and 916 gold?
Yes. 22ct, 22 carat, 22 karat and 22K all mean 22 parts gold in 24, which is 91.6% pure — the 916 stamped in a BIS hallmark. It is the standard purity for Indian gold jewellery.
Why is the MCX gold rate different from the 22ct gold price?
MCX quotes futures contracts for 24 carat (999) gold, per 10 grams, for traders, and the price moves through the day with the contract. The 22ct price is the rate for 91.6% gold that jewellers buy and sell at, taken from the IBJA benchmark. They measure different things, so they never match.
What is the IBJA gold rate?
The benchmark rate published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association, Mumbai, twice on each trading day for 999, 995, 916, 750 and 585 gold and 999 silver. RBI refers to it for Sovereign Gold Bond redemption prices and for valuing gold pledged for loans, and jewellers across India quote their counter rates from it.
What are the AM and PM rates?
IBJA publishes an opening (AM) rate around 12 pm IST and a closing (PM) rate around 5 pm IST. This page always shows the latest of the two.
Does the 22ct gold price include GST?
No. IBJA's rates are before 3% GST. The calculator on this page adds GST for any weight.
Why is 22 carat gold cheaper than 24 carat?
22K (916) is 91.6% gold; the rest is alloy that makes it hard enough to wear. IBJA's 916 rate is its 999 rate times 0.916, and its 750 (18K) rate is the 999 rate times 0.75.
Is the gold rate in Jaipur the same as the IBJA rate?
IBJA is a national benchmark. Jewellers in Jaipur, as everywhere, quote their counter rate from it and add their own margin and costs, so a Jaipur counter rate can sit a little above it. Ask us for today's rate.
