Wearing

How to wear a navratna ring

Tradition gives a few rules; an astrologer may add their own.

  1. Choose the finger

Traditionally the ring finger, the finger linked with the Sun — on the right hand for men; many women wear it on the left.

  2. Get the size right first

A ring with stones all the way round is hard to resize. An Indian ring size is the inside circumference in mm, less 40 — measure a ring that fits and send us the number.

  3. Keep the ruby at the centre

The ring is made with the ruby in the middle and the eight around it in their navaratna order; wear it the right way up.

  4. Ask about the day

Many families put a navratna ring on for the first time on an auspicious day. If you wear it for astrology, ask your astrologer which.

Questions

Navratna ring questions

Ask a question

Can men wear a navratna ring?

Yes, and many do — usually a broader, plainer band than a woman's, with the stones set close and the face kept low so it doesn't catch.

Should a navratna ring be open-backed?

If you wear it for astrology, yes — each stone should touch the skin. Tell us when you order and it is set that way.

How big is a navratna ring?

Big enough to hold nine stones round a ruby, so the face is a little larger than a single-stone ring. Our karigars cut the stones to keep it in proportion with your finger — see our Navratna Ring.

Which planet does each stone in a navratna ring stand for?

Each of the nine stands for one of the navagraha: ruby the Sun, pearl the Moon, coral Mars, emerald Mercury, yellow sapphire Jupiter, diamond Venus, blue sapphire Saturn, hessonite Rahu and cat's eye Ketu.
