Which navratna earrings for which occasion?

For every day, navratna studs: the nine stones in a small flower, the ruby at its heart, flat on the lobe. For festivals, a drop that lets the stones hang below the ear. For weddings, the navratna jhumka, the stones ringed round a bell that swings.

The order is the one the navaratna tradition gives every piece: the ruby for the Sun at the centre, the eight others round it.

Does each navratna earring carry all nine stones?

In a stud or a jhumka, usually yes — the nine sit together round the ruby. Some long designs spread the stones down the drop instead; ask which a design follows.

Can navratna earrings be worn with a multicoloured lehenga?

With care. Nine stone colours beside a busy print compete; they read best against one colour — a deep red, green or ivory lehenga — or with plain gold beside them.

How small can navratna studs be made?

Small enough to sit flat on a small lobe, because the stones are cut to the design: our karigars cut nine small natural stones to fit a little flower, each still weighed in carats with a lab report.
