Navratna bangle, kada or bracelet?

A navratna bangle is rigid and usually worn as a pair, the nine stones repeating round each; a navratna kada is a single broad band — the form most men choose; a navratna bracelet is flexible and closes with a clasp.

Our own is the navratna ponchi: the stones set in kundan, then strung to sit close to the wrist.

Questions

Navratna bangle questions

Ask a question

Are navratna bangles sold as a pair?

Usually — two matching bangles, one for each wrist. A kada is sold on its own.

Does the pearl in a navratna kada need special care?

Yes — of the nine it is the softest. A pearl is dulled by perfume, sweat and soap, so take the kada off to wash, put it on after perfume, and wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Coral, the other soft stone, wants the same care.

How many stones go round a navratna kada?

Nine at least, in the navaratna order with the ruby at the centre of the front. On a broad kada the group of nine can repeat round the band, always in the same order.
