Which finger should a gold ring go on?
There is no rule for an everyday gold ring — wear it on the finger it suits. The ring finger is the traditional place for an engagement ring and for a navratna ring; a bold ring looks well on the index finger; a thin band suits the little finger.
See our Navratna Ring, built on the navratna order with the ruby at the centre, and the bridal Hathphool.
How do I find my Indian ring size at home?
Wrap a thread round the base of the finger, snug but not tight, mark where it meets and measure it flat in millimetres; take away 40, and that is your Indian size. Measure in the evening, when fingers are fullest, and if the knuckle is wide, measure that too and go by the larger.
Can a gold ring be resized?
Usually by a size or two, and a plain band most easily. A ring set with stones all the way round may need remaking rather than stretching, so it pays to get the size right first.
Will the stones in a gold ring loosen over time?
They can, on a ring worn every day — rings take more knocks than any other jewellery. Harder 18K holds a setting better than 22K, which is why stone rings are usually made in it; whatever the karat, have the setting checked once a year. Look for the BIS hallmark inside the band.
Why does a bigger ring size cost more?
Because a bigger ring is a longer band: each Indian size adds a millimetre of circumference, about 1.8% more gold on a plain band. Between sizes 10 and 16 that is roughly a tenth more gold for the same design.
