Navratna Maang Tikka

(नवरत्न मांग टीका)

A navratna maang tikka carries the nine stones at the parting — as a flat tikka or a round borla — in 18K gold, made to match a navratna necklace or worn alone.

New designs are being photographed.

Wearing a navratna maang tikka

Wear it like any tikka — the pendant just above the brows, the chain along the parting — but match it with care: the nine colours read best against plain gold, or with other navratna pieces, rather than beside a set in different stones.

How to anchor a tikka with every hairstyle is on our maang tikka page; the stones sit in kundan, as in every navratna piece we make.

Questions

Navratna tikka questions

Ask a question

Can a navratna maang tikka be made as a borla?

Yes — the nine stones set round a domed borla, the Rajasthani way, with a pearl hanging below.

Can the nine stones run in a line instead of a circle?

Yes — down the length of a long tikka, or across a matha patti, the nine can be set one after another, with the ruby at the centre of the line. The order is the same; only the shape changes.

Which stone faces forward on a navratna tikka?

The ruby, at the centre of the pendant, with the other eight round it in the navaratna order — so on the forehead the stone of the Sun, first of the navagraha, sits in the middle, over the parting.
